About this event
The Type Media Center Annual Gala has become a gathering point for those fighting on the frontlines for social justice and civil rights and a focal point for leading thinkers and social commentators in the United States. Past guests and speakers have included figures from the worlds of politics, media, and entertainment — including Toni Morrison; Bryan Stevenson; Paul Newman; Naomi Klein; Senators Bernie Sanders, Sherrod Brown, and Tammy Baldwin; Reverend Dr. William J. Barber II; Cecile Richards; Dolores Huerta; among many others. It promises to be an exciting and inspiring evening with over 400 leaders from the progressive political, labor, activist, advocacy, cultural, and journalism communities coming together to find hope and solace and plan for the battles ahead.
The Puffin Prize for Creative Citizenship
The Puffin Foundation Ltd. and Type Media Center are the mutual sponsors of an annual $100,000 award given to an individual who has challenged the status quo through courageous, distinctive, and socially responsible work. The prize is intended to encourage the recipients to continue their work, and previous winners have included Colin Kaepernick, Amy Goodman, and the Parkland students who founded March for Our Lives.
